Read the figures carefully

A practical reference, not a shortcut.

These figures are here to make public information easier to find and cite. They are not legal advice, a prediction of individual eligibility, or a substitute for current official guidance. For a personal licensing question, use the Illinois State Police. For training, start with safe handling, clear judgment, and a course that fits your experience.

Methodology & sources

Built to be checked.

This page uses direct public reporting from the Illinois State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics. Each statistic uses the source’s own reporting period and definition. CNC Academy has not calculated approval rates, estimated missing figures, or combined datasets.

Illinois State Police notes that statewide firearm-related information is collected through different record systems. ATF explains the limits of its trace data. Those qualifications matter, so they are kept beside the relevant figures rather than buried in a footnote.
